Women living with HIV (WLHIV) face a significantly elevated risk of developing cervical cancer compared to those not infected with HIV.
Evidence from across the world suggests around 10% of patients with cancer have a germline or hereditary genetic variant, which make them predisposed to developing cancer. Understanding the gene and variant could have implications in screening additional members in the family. Know more
Cervical cancer is largely preventable, especially when detected early through routine screenings. Cases of cervical cancer are notably rare among women who consistently receive negative screening results. This blog explores the preventive methods in keeping cervical cancer at bay.
This blog brings forth the call to action in the face of cervical cancer, emphasizing the vital role of awareness, support, and the pressing need for preventive measures in the fabric of India’s healthcare narrative.
Cervical Cancer is one of the most preventable cancers of women. Sometimes we don’t pay attention to the early signs of HPV infection. This blog will walk you through knowing more about the virus and its effects and also the warning signs and its prevention.
It usually takes 10–20 years for cervical cancer to develop after HPV infection. So if one can prevent cancer causing HPV infection in the first place and cervical precancerous changes in the cervical cells, eventually, cervical cancer can be prevented. Since we know that cervical cancer is caused by HPV infection, vaccines have been developed to prevent major cancer causing HPVs such as HPV 16 and 18 in addition to others.
With the optimum use of technology, we at Karkinos Healthcare and IVDP are confident that such targeted community cancer screening programmes will bring about a marked decrease in the cancer incidence and burden observed in India.
Cancer is preceded by precancerous changes in the cervix that remain for several years before becoming cancer and these changes can be readily detectable by screening and effectively treatable.
Police women, participating in the screening program, had access to scientifically advanced cancer diagnostics including the Gold Standard HPV test.
It is important to empower the woman with knowledge on the right approach to health and wellness. Educating women on preventing life-threatening diseases like cancer is critical to accomplish goals focused on women’s health and in breaking the biases.
It is the 4th of March –– the INTERNATIONAL HPV AWARENESS DAY. On this day organizations like Karkinos Healthcare create awareness on the dangers of the human papillomavirus (HPV) that causes cervical cancer and the importance of vaccination.
The partnership with Westminster Hospital further strengthens our intent to address the cancer burden in citizens across Chennai and Tamil Nadu, especially for those who might otherwise be unable to receive these life-saving facilities.
Cervical cancer is an eminently preventable disease and amenable for elimination, provided women are vaccinated against HPV infection and screened regularly.
Together, Karkinos Healthcare and GenWorks will provide primary screening through HPV DNA tests, and confirmatory diagnoses through colposcopy at the clinics and hospitals of the partner gynecologists.

Cancer ― the Emperor of all Maladies ― is one of the greatest health challenges to mankind and is one of the leading causes of death across the globe. I have personally seen the disease to devastate families and to drag people to extreme poverty.
